Externship overview
Externship goals:
Accelerate a veterinary student’s professional journey by giving them a jump start on mastering clinical skills in an off campus educational experience.  The goal is to elevate skills and have students practice-ready at graduation.
Externship schedule:
Our externships are flexible and are typically 4-8 weeks in length.  The schedule mirrors the clinic schedule with daytime hours only and is capped at a 40-hour work week.
Externship Stipend and Housing:
A $300 per week stipend is provided along with the cost of housing for the duration of the externship.  In order to qualify for housing, applications must be received by Feb 28th, 2025.  Please submit your application for further details.
Externship experience:
Our externship rotations are designed to allow students, under veterinary supervision, to practice the problem-solving, technical and communication skills that they have acquired during their clinical preparation.  Externs will have exposure to all aspects of practice life including veterinary activities, billing, inventory management, and customer relations.
Working alongside our veterinarians, externs are immersed in the typical caseload of a general small animal practice.  Externs can expect to gather patient histories, perform physical examinations, develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans, assist in managing medical cases as well as surgery. Experience will be tailored to meet the extern’s interests and needs based on their completed level of education as well as technical abilities.
General areas of experience
